Virginia Berry is a textile artist with training in drawing,
painting, sculpture, textile arts and costuming. Berry's design work ranges
from clothing, to purses, jewelry, table linens, notebooks and other assorted
creations. She hand makes everything in her home studio, including the tags in
each creation. She has been making wearable art since childhood and has been
designing under her label YazBerry Fashion since 2005.
Berry graduated from Skidmore College with a Double Major in
Spanish and Government and a Minor in International Affairs. She designed
costumes for the Skidmore Theatre under the tutelage of Patti Pawliczak and
would sculpt period hairstyles for shows. Berry had garment collections
featured in annual fashion shows at the college.
YazBerry has been shown at art fairs throughout Minnesota. In 2011,
YazBerry was available at Northfield, MN’s Riverwalk Market Fair. YazBerry
Fashion is currently available only on Etsy.com and at The
Local Joint store in Northfield, MN.
Berry's collection, YazBerry Fashion can best be described as
vintage inspired design in bold colors and structural shapes. Her keen eye for
color and volume come together nicely throughout her pieces. YazBerry Fashion
ranges in price from $10 for handmade earrings up to $227 for a handmade
messenger bag made of antique Japanese kimono obi silk. She also carries a
carefully curated selection of vintage purses and accessories and has recently
started offering vintage decor items. Her work is sustainable in nature as she
uses a mixture of recycled textiles and jewelry bits, found objects and new and
melds them into must have one of a kind creations. She boasts that YazBerry
will leave people asking you where you got it!
